Spunbond non-woven

Continuous PP filaments extruded, air-drawn, laid randomly onto a forming belt and bonded by a hot embossing calender. Sold by the tonne in rolls; it is the raw material for almost everything else in this family. Distinguished from meltblown (1-5 µm fibres, weak, filtration only) and from needle-punch (mechanically entangled, lofty, no bond dots).

Spunbond–meltblown–spunbond sandwich thermally bonded in one pass: the meltblown core supplies hydrostatic barrier and bacterial filtration, the spunbond skins supply strength and abrasion resistance. Not interchangeable with SS, which has no barrier layer.

Polymer blown by high-velocity hot air into 1-5 µm fibres collected as a fine web. Structurally weak on its own — always used as a filter core or laminated. Electret (corona or water-charged) grades hold a static charge for high capture at low pressure drop.

Staple or filament web mechanically entangled by thousands of barbed needles — thick, lofty, high elongation, no thermal bond points, tears rather than splits. The base for geotextile, filter felt, carpet backing, automotive trim and grow bags.

A non-woven roll made from staple fibres — viscose, polyester or blends of the two — entangled by high-pressure water jets rather than bonded with heat or a binder. It is soft, drapeable, absorbent and low-linting; viscose-rich grades absorb best and polyester-rich grades are stronger, and it can be apertured or combined with a PP spunbond layer. Supplied as base fabric for wet wipes, facial mask sheets, medical swabs and dressings, industrial wipers, disposable towels and synthetic-leather backing.

The same spunbond line running additive masterbatch or a kiss-roll topical finish. Sold as a separately qualified SKU because the performance claim — not the gsm — is what the buyer contracts for.

Spunbond spun from recycled PET flake instead of virgin PP. Slightly stiffer, higher melt point (so different weld settings), duller colour take-up. The product sold is really the GRS certificate — the fabric is a means to it.

Molten PE extrusion-coated directly onto spunbond, or a pre-made microporous breathable PE film dry/hot-melt laminated to it. Gives a liquid-proof face while retaining a fabric hand and (in microporous grades) vapour breathability. Not the same as BOPP lamination, which is for print gloss rather than barrier.

Rotogravure-printed BOPP film dry-laminated onto spunbond so the print sits sealed under the film. Produces photographic full-colour, waterproof, wipe-clean promo material — the standard premium nonwoven bag substrate. Supplied as roll or as cut sheets to bag lines.

A flat non-woven carrier whose seams are closed by ultrasonic or heat welding, with the handle die-cut straight through the top of the bag body in a D, U or W shape — no separate handle and no gusset. The top edge can be folded into a reinforcing hem, or a welded patch added around the handle, to strengthen the point where a die-cut handle is most likely to tear. Used as a retail, pharmacy and clinic carrier, in garment retail and as an exhibition giveaway.

A D-cut bag with a folded bottom gusset so it stands up and carries volume, but with no side gussets. The intermediate step between the flat bag and the full box bag; its seams are welded on a standard bag machine with a bottom-fold unit.

A non-woven carrier die-cut in the outline of a sleeveless vest, so the two handles are part of the bag body rather than attached to it. Seams are closed by ultrasonic or heat welding, with a bottom gusset, side gussets or both as options for extra volume. Supplied flat, block-headed on a wicket for dispensing at the checkout, or on a roll, for supermarkets, wet markets, takeaway food and pharmacies.

A shopping bag made from spunbond non-woven fabric laminated with BOPP film that has been gravure reverse-printed, so the artwork sits sealed under the film. The film can be gloss, matte, soft-touch matte or holographic, and the bag can be made up as a box bag, flat bag, loop-handle bag or sewn tote, with welded or sewn seams. It carries full-colour photographic print on a wipe-clean, water-resistant surface, and is used for premium retail and fashion carriers, cosmetics and electronics gift bags, and supermarkets' own branded reusable bags.

Heavy nonwoven, almost always BOPP-laminated, converted into a gusseted sack with a loop or die-cut handle for 5-25 kg retail rice, flour, pulses and pet food. The seams are sewn or ultrasonically welded. It prints better than laminated woven PP and is used as the higher-end alternative to it.

An insulated bag with a non-woven outer shell laminated over an EPE or XPE foam core and an aluminised-film or aluminium-foil inner face. The layers are cut and sewn into a tote, delivery backpack, pizza bag, bottle sleeve or collapsible ice bag, closed by a zip, a hook-and-loop tab or a fold-over flap, and a PEVA inner liner can be added to make it leak-proof. Used to keep food and drink hot or cold for short periods: food delivery, supermarket chilled goods, picnics and outdoor use, and short-duration pharmaceutical cold chain.

A non-woven cover that hangs over a garment on its hanger, with a hanger opening at the top and a centre zip, hook-and-loop tab or overlap closing the front. Non-woven fabric lets air through, so the garment can breathe in storage — the reason it is preferred to plastic film, in which wool can mildew. Options include a deep gusset for bulky coats, a clear window, a bottom accessory pocket and a printed logo, for tailoring and menswear, bridal, dry cleaners, and home wardrobe and travel storage.

UV-stabilised, sometimes hydrophilic spunbond laid directly over the crop as a floating row cover, or hung inside a tunnel as a thermal layer. Breathable and water-permeable — that is the entire argument against PE film.

A plant container sewn or welded from non-woven fabric and used in place of a rigid plastic pot. Roots that reach the porous wall are air-pruned instead of circling, which gives a denser, more fibrous root ball. It ranges from thin nursery and seedling bags to felt grow bags with webbing handles, raised-bed planters and root-ball bags for transplanting trees, usually UV-stabilised for outdoor use, and is used in commercial nurseries and for home and rooftop growing.

Multi-layer quilt: a needle-punch or nonwoven wadding core between laminated woven or coated nonwoven skins, stitched or welded into striped panels and rolled over a tunnel at night by a motorised roller.

A heavy needle-punched non-woven fabric of PP or PET fibre, supplied in rolls for civil engineering, where it separates, filters, drains, protects and reinforces soil layers. Filament grades are spunbonded as continuous filaments and then needle-punched, and are stronger for their weight; staple-fibre grades are needle-punched from cut fibre and are thicker. It can also be laminated to a plastic membrane as a composite geomembrane, and is used in road and railway subgrades, landfill liner protection, drainage, erosion control, dam and canal lining and tunnel waterproofing.
