What actually happens

Gravure carries fine detail and photographic work that other methods struggle with, and it holds registration across long runs. The cylinders are a real one-off cost, which is why gravure suits repeating programmes rather than one-off short runs.

What to specify

Specify colour count and supply a signed proof on your actual substrate — never a bare colour reference, because the same ink reads differently on woven, on film and on paper.

How it goes wrong, and what catches it

The failure mode. Colour drift between the approved proof and the run, and misregistration on fine detail.

The control. Production does not start until a press sheet is signed against your proof on your substrate. Signed copies are sealed and retained so a later dispute is settled with physical samples.
